Customizable concept 1000 Degrees Pizza has a new owner, commercial real estate investor Amandeep Judge, who says the 21-unit brand “has incredible untapped potential.”

Founded in 2014 in Galloway, New Jersey, 1000 Degrees has opened three locations in Texas in the past two years, and Judge plans further development there and in Florida, among other states. Menu updates and new products are in the works, said Matt Merrill, director of franchise operations who has been with the company for nearly a decade.

Brian Petruzzi launched the company in 2014 and also started the franchise that year, with plans to introduce Neapolitan pizza to the fast food market by making custom pizzas in less than two minutes. In 2018, the chain had more than 80 restaurants.

Blaze Pizza and MOD Pizza are also in the quick pizza business. Blaze Pizza was founded in 2011 by Elise and Rick Wetzel of Wetzel’s Pretzels and was inspired by Chipotle’s made-to-order approach. It has over 300 locations. MOD Pizza, founded in 2008 by Scott and Ally Svenson, had over 490 locations in 2021.

PizzaRev, once a high flyer in the space with 44 locations in 2017, fell to 32 locations in 2019 and just 13 in 2020.
