Chick N Max — a fast-casual, next-gen franchise specializing in almondwood-smoked chicken and wings, homemade sandwiches and golden fried tenderloins — signed a lease for its first-ever franchise location.

The new restaurant will be located in the Westlink Mall at 8977 West Central Avenue and will be owned and operated by Leghorn Development, LLC, a restaurant development group led by restaurant franchise industry veteran Rusty Rathbun. Once open, the restaurant will mark Chick N Max’s fourth location in the Wichita area and the first-ever franchise location in the country.

Construction is expected to begin within 45 days, with an expected opening by the end of the year.

“The signing of this particular lease represents an important milestone in the growth of Chick N Max as we continue to drive our franchise expansion efforts in the central and southeastern United States,” said Max Sheets, founder of Chick N Max. “We are grateful to have such an experienced partner in Rusty, and we look forward to opening our first franchise with incredible enthusiasm.”

The new restaurant will feature 2,500 square feet of space, indoor seating for 50-60 people and innovative dual drive-thru. One lane will be used for traditional on-site ordering and pick-up. The other lane will enable an express “skip the line” promise for customers ordering online, through the Chick N Max app and third-party delivery services.

As for the menu?

Chick N Max offers a unique culinary experience with its 10 unique flavors of chef-prepared sandwiches, from almond wood smoked pulled chicken to tender crispy golden fries. Examples include the Maple Bacon Sandwich, made with pulled smoked chicken, chopped bacon, a drizzle of maple syrup, cheddar cheese, and mayonnaise on a potato bun; or the sweet and spicy sandwich, which features lightly breaded and crispy chicken tenders, fried jalapeño strips, cucumber, tomato, and sweet and spicy sauce on a brioche bun.

Additionally, Chick N Max serves its Almondwood Smoked Chicken in wings, thigh quarters, breast quarters and half chicken.

Customers can complete their meal with a range of 10 homemade sides, including fries, onion rings, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and smoked white beans, as well as 11 sauces prepared daily to guarantee the best quality and the best taste.

“I’ve been a fan of Chick N Max and its exceptional customer experience for many years, and I’m thrilled to be opening the brand’s first-ever franchise,” says Rathbun. “I’m especially thrilled to have recently joined Chick N Max as an Area Developer. Having the opportunity to grow the brand in Kansas, which I call home, makes me very proud.

In April, Rathbun signed an area development agreement for 25 Chick N Max locations in various designated market areas across Kansas. He plans to open three of the restaurants himself and is actively seeking franchise partners to develop the rest.

In addition to Kansas expansion plans, Chick N Max plans to open two more franchise units by the end of the first quarter of 2023 – one in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and another in Houston, Texas, where multi-unit development agreements have been signed.

According to Sheets, conversations are ongoing about potential additional opportunities in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Phoenix.
