The Disney Halloween Festival is back from October 1 to November 6, 2022 at Disneyland Paris, with villains taking over the 30th anniversary, entertainment, decorations, special nights, and more. This guide offers tips for visiting France in the fall to make the most of Ghost Season at Walt Disney Studios Park, Resorts, Disney Village and DLP.
Before going into the rest of the details about Halloween 2022 at Disneyland Paris, we recommend that you consult our Disneyland Paris Vacation Planning Guide, which is useful no matter what time of year you visit. As for Halloween, the season is similar to Magic Kingdom or Disneyland in California, but with its own gruesome twists at Disneyland Paris.
This year, the big difference is that Halloween takes place at the same time as the Celebrating 30 years of Disneyland Paris. And after lurking in the shadows for several months, it’s finally time for Disney’s villains to steal the show. Their devilishly playful takeover of Disneyland Park will feature devilish character meet-and-greets, a mischievous atmosphere, terrifyingly funny shows, and spooky attractions. Here we’ll cover all the details, including what’s new for Halloween ’22.
The crowd levels you will encounter at Disneyland Paris during Halloween vary. Weekends and French school holidays are the busiest times to visit in the month of October 2022. Closer to Halloween, it is also busier than the middle of the month. The first weekend is also popular with DLP fans.
On the positive side, fall is not a busy season for traveling to France or Paris. Generally speaking, the holiday season lasts from May to September, with a peak from June to August. October is downright out of season, falling far enough past summer and before Christmas. So if your trip includes time outside of the parks, now is a great time to visit. As for the weather, it’s also temperate.
When it comes to Disneyland Paris decorations for Halloween 2022, guests will find familiar Halloween decor adorning the park upon arrival. This includes smiling pumpkins, fairy lights, lanterns, friendly ghosts and cheerful skeletons up to 3 meters tall!
The Disneyland Paris hotels will also be immersed in the Halloween spirit as they will adorn themselves with fall decorations for the very first time. It will be fun to see how the DLP team accomplishes this, as the Christmas decorations at the stations are beautiful.
Back in the parks, Disneyland Paris will welcome many mischievous villains, including Maleficent, Captain Hook, Queen of Hearts, Cruella de Vil, and many more. These villains are already gearing up to celebrate the season that will put them in the spotlight by appearing for character encounters all over Disneyland Paris.
Plus, it just so happens that for Halloween 2022, the Royal Castle stage (a bit unsuitable for ghost season, but it’s normally the home of the princesses) will become the regular haunt of Disney villains. They will take advantage of this location to put themselves in the limelight. After making stage appearances, the villains will meet their beloved audience.
This year, Mickey’s Halloween Celebration makes its triumphant return after a two-year hiatus. During this thrilling cavalcade, the characters are dressed in their best Halloween costumes. Mickey’s Halloween celebration ushers in the arrival of fall with a festive fall atmosphere.
During the ride, Mickey Mouse has fun surprising guests from his impressive “Mickey’s Illusion Manor” float, which features fun ghosts! Mickey’s Halloween Celebration takes place several times a day at Disneyland Paris. (As noted, this is a cavalcade and not a full-fledged parade, which means fewer floats and performers.)
When night falls during Halloween 2022 at Disneyland Paris, villains will have a spooky surprise in store: Nightfall with Disney Villains. It’s basically a pre-show, taking place before Disney D-Light, which is the pre-show for the 30th anniversary celebration consisting of a drone display. After the villainous pre-pre-show and the drone pre-show, Disney Illuminations, the full night show on the castle.
During Nightfall with Disney Villains, these cunning characters step out of the shadows and temporarily take over Sleeping Beauty’s castle to carry out their wicked plan, in a dancing fountain show combined with splashes.
These Halloween 2022 activities are in addition to the many shows and experiences offered by Disneyland Paris. This includes the daily park parade (full version, not a cavalcade) Disney Stars on Parade.
There’s also the Gardens of Wonder, an exhibit that features 30 works of art featuring characters such as Maleficent, Ursula, and Jafar. It’s one of many things designed for Disneyland Paris’ 30th anniversary celebration; you will find the Jardins des Merveilles set up just outside the Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant. (Presumably, this means there will be no character pumpkins for Halloween 2022.)
Although Disneyland Paris advertises attractions as part of its Halloween marketing campaign, there are none that are special for Halloween. Phantom Manor doesn’t get a Nightmare Before Christmas overlay like the other Haunted Mansion attractions, and Disneyland Paris doesn’t change any other rides.
That said, there are certain attractions in each park that naturally lend themselves to ghost season. Disneyland Paris is home to rides for visitors of all ages. The little ones can test their courage in attractions such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Alice’s Curious Labyrinth or The Dragon’s Lair.
Then there’s the aforementioned Phantom Manor, which draws visitors to its overgrown estate. Inside this derelict mansion, phosphorescent spirits are too busy enjoying their feast and dancing in the dining room to pay attention to their guests. Attend the Ghost Ball for a year-round celebration of ghost season.
When you’re done, head to Walt Disney Studios Park for an exhilarating adventure alongside friends, family, and foes inside the Twilight Zone’s infamous Tower of Terror. With its spooky new storyline, impressive 13-story drop, dark rooms and spooky ghosts, this thrilling ride transports visitors to another dimension.
Halloween will also be celebrated in the shops of Disneyland Paris, where a wide range of exclusive souvenirs dedicated to Mickey & Friends, Disney Villains and Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas will be sold.
Disneyland Paris will also be offering new treats for Halloween 2022, including the Wicked Whip, a surprising cone, an incredible Evil Sundae with Lucky Nugget, a “Mickey Mummy” lollipop and many other products! Fantastic drinks will also be added to select bar and restaurant menus, including the Little Devil cocktail, the “poison apple” and the Oogie Boogie mocktail.
The Disney Halloween Party is a flat-rate event at Disneyland Paris that lets guests celebrate spooky season in style. The Disney Halloween Party enchants the park only on October 29 & 31, 2022 until 2 a.m. During this event, you can enjoy access to attractions, an exclusive parade, wickedly festive entertainment, and even more.
Disney Halloween Party tickets are sold separately and access is NOT included with a park ticket or a hotel + tickets package. For 2022, two Halloween parties are being held to provide more opportunities to enjoy a selection of attractions that will be open 2am, such as Phantom Manor, Big Thunder Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean, plus a cavalcade exclusive and entertainment elements prepared by Disney Villains.
During Disney’s Halloween parties, certain areas of Disneyland Paris will be home to spooky creatures, including strange zombies around the caves and crypts of Adventureland and ghostly encounters in Frontierland. At the stroke of midnight, the most intrepid guests will experience spooky moments on Main Street, USA, as mysterious spirits invade this area.
Guests will also experience exclusive new shows, created with Disney’s Halloween parties in mind. In addition, the Halloween cavalcade will also take place during both holidays. Finally, the Disney Villains will also spend time throughout the Park interacting with the bravest Guests.
Although these events at Disneyland Paris differ from year to year, Disney Halloween parties are ideal for those who want to be immersed in an incredibly terrifying atmosphere. It’s a fun and spooky change of pace from the normal not-so-scary Disneyland Paris vibe during Halloween, but the major entertainment isn’t materially different or improved. Attend because of the ambience and atmospheric performers; don’t go if you are happy with the normal Halloween experience at Disneyland Paris.
Ultimately, the normal Halloween experience at Disneyland Paris is good. While we personally prefer Christmas (which starts less than a week after Halloween ends!), they’re both great seasonal events.
On top of that, crowds can be more manageable, the weather is much better compared to summer, and more. In short, autumn is the perfect time to visit Disneyland Paris! Halloween is a big reason, but far from the only one. Autumn is a great season for France as a whole, so be sure to venture beyond the parks if you’re visiting DLP from abroad.
