More high-rise apartments planned for Preston city center

The Grade II listed building – the former Unitarian Church sits between the two peak buildings: planning documents

Plans have been submitted for a new build private residential development consisting of two buildings located at Chadderton and Crompton Court, Percy Street in the town centre.


The proposed development is intended to help create a transition between the low-rise construction which dominates the immediate area and the development under construction with new high-rise apartments

The site is in a mainly residential area, rich in amenities such as NHS services, schools and places of worship. Shops, pubs and restaurants can be found along Church Street, which is about 20m to the south-east.

The development will be adjacent to the Exchange block apartment building in the former Bhailok Court building in Pole Street.

The two buildings will offer a total of 52 apartments including 25 one bedroom apartments and 17 two bedroom apartments and all associated hard and soft highways, services, landscaping works.

The plans involve the demolition of the existing Chadderton Court. If plans go ahead, the 14-story building will feature 44 apartments, 29 one-bedroom apartments and 15 two-bedroom apartments. The building will also have a roof garden.

Crompton Court will accommodate eight apartments in a five-storey block, with the ground floor offering one apartment and each of the three middle floors each housing two houses.

The design statement on behalf of FWP Limited, said: “The proposal will regenerate two underused areas in Preston city center and provide much needed high quality housing that will help deliver the vision objectives set out in the framework. of Stoneygate regeneration, contributing to the creation of “a vibrant new ‘urban village’ in Stoneygate combining existing and new, high quality, bespoke development”.
