    Qatar’s hospitality industry set to flourish from March this year

    While the January and February forecast may be lower for the hospitality industry in Qatar and the Mena region amid the onslaught of the Omicron Covid-19 variant, “the rest of the year looks very bright “and demand is expected to” pick up very strongly, leading to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, “said a senior hotelier.
    Aurelio Giraudo, general manager of the Banyan Tree Doha cluster at La Cigale Mushaireb & La Cigale Hotel run by Accor, told Gulf Times he sees 2022 as a remarkable year for Qatar, citing that 1.2 million visitors are likely to travel to the country for the flagship event.
    “Before that, many other events are also planned, which in turn will generate demand for the hospitality industry and boost tourism, namely the Doha Jewelry and Watches Exhibition, the Doha Book Fair, the Festival Katara Arabian Horse, Dimdex, Milipol, the Fencing Grand Prix, Tennis and Table Tennis Tournaments, Al Shaqab, MotoGP, Diamond League, World Padel Tour, Qatar Masters – Golf and other events ”, noted Giraudo, who was previously at the Regency Hotel in Kuwait as General Manager and Director of Business Development.
    We learn that several other events are scheduled in the coming months before the highly anticipated sporting event, which will take place in Qatar from November 21 to December 18.
    According to Giraudo, Doha is expected to be full during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and football fans will have an exceptional variety of accommodation options to choose from.
    Besides hotels, he added that visitors can choose accommodation on cruise ships, apartment hotels, fan villages with an Arabian desert vibe, as well as stays in private homes. “16 floating hotels will also be built, offering around 1,600 rooms in total. “
    “The tourism sector will be booming during the World Cup period and fans will be able to enjoy tasting the local cuisine, exploring iconic museums, passing exhilarating dunes and relaxing at the spa or the beach, there is something for everyone. Exciting times to come, ”said Giraudo.
    On the impact of a third wave of Covid-19 on the entire hospitality industry, he said hotels in Qatar and the region have revised their revenue forecasts, taking the wave into account current, and have started work on cost control measures.
    “While we have in mind that Covid-19 is still here, we hadn’t anticipated such a strong third wave. The government of Qatar has strongly supported the hospitality industry in previous years by hosting sports tournaments in a biosecure or semi-bubble environment and we expect the same trends to continue. With the vaccine and the booster shots, we are better prepared to manage the third wave, ”Giraudo said.
    Besides the usual mandatory wearing of masks and social distancing, he said brands and hotels have been working hard to improve their protocols (and will continue to do so) in this pandemic to keep customers safe.
    Giraudo stressed the importance of security measures such as communication with customers, the implementation of digital registration, the use of QR codes for restaurant and spa menus, the sale of food delivery, packaged catering, plate buffets and the introduction of a robot waiter. For his colleagues, he said the company is flexible with the culture of working from home for the administrative team.
