UNLVino returns, bringing together top chefs, winemakers, brewers and distillers for the Great Tasting Event. The third and final event will feature premium wines and exquisite cuisine with the help of students from William F. Harrah College of Hospitality. The tasting will take place at UNLV Hospitality Hall, College of Hospitality Management, 4th floor on May 7.
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas offers one of the most prestigious hospitality colleges, the UNLV William F. Harrah College of Hospitality. UNLVino has been inspiring university alumni since 1974 to fund scholarships for those with the desire and talent but not the means to attend college. As a result, millions of dollars have been raised to fund scholarships for students at William F. Harrah College of Hospitality.
One of the participants is UNLVino scholarship recipient Lauren Mausbach, who graduated in May with a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management with a concentration in Meetings and Events. She moved from out of state to attend UNLV for her training to pursue event planning.
“I really love the special events process, and my dream is to become a wedding planner,” she says.
This is Mausbach’s first time attending UNLVino, and she’s excited to have the experience on campus this year. “It will be a more intimate environment, and we plan to use all three levels of the building and create one big event. The experience itself was pleasant. It’s very convenient, and I had to interview to be considered. It was great to learn about the event from that perspective.
Students from UNLV’s William F. Harrah College of Hospitality and top local restaurants will present a specially curated menu accompanying a wide range of premium wine collections that will be on display with sommeliers and student hosts for guests to enjoy. savor.
The student menu features carefully curated dishes including African chermoula chicken skewers, Asian beef bulgogi, European crab cucumber bites, and succulent American truffle lobster macaroni and cheese. which will go well with fine high-end wines. The exclusive wine list spans from the West Coast to the East Coast, including Rodney Strong Vineyards, Trefethen Family Vineyards, Daou Vineyards and Winery, Dusted Valley Vintners, Grgich Hills Estate, Gerard Bertrand, Moet Hennessy and the Wagner Family.

Accompanying the grand tasting, a live and silent auction will be organized by Jeff Civillico, with over 80 items to bid on; Proceeds from the auction will go to UNLV students to raise funds for scholarships for future hospitality leaders in Southern Nevada.
The hospitality industry has faced many challenges, and coupled with the challenges of distance learning; hotel education has also been affected. Add tuition and it’s hard for students to commit to (or continue with) their studies. Scholarships funded by events like UNLVino help facilitate this commitment for students by easing some of their financial burdens.
